Why A $30 Hair Dryer Doesn’t Really Save You Money

by styleguy

I’ll admit it. When it comes to grooming products, I am, cheap frugal. I will drop hundreds of dollars on designer clothing, shoes and electronic gadgets. But when it comes to something I use to maintain basic grooming, I head to the closest drug store and try to spend the least amount of money possible. So when my wife replaced our old (yet somewhat reliable) $30 hair dryer with the Karmin G3 Salon Pro Hair Dryer I was skeptical, yet intrigued. The packaging was pretty nice – I always appreciate a brand that takes some time to present their products in an attractive way. The hair dryer came boxed with a few additional attachments, which I am not sure what to do with, but I saw my wife’s eyes light up when she saw them so that’s a bonus!

The dryer has three heat settings and two speed settings. I am a medium heat, high speed kinda guy. This was a major plus given that my prior hair dryer had only one heat setting and two speed settings. I went about my usual routine and tried the dryer after a shower. One thing I really appreciated was the extra long cord. Our bathroom is not the biggest, and sharing it can get ‘cozy’. The longer cord allowed me to move around a bit. The dryer was great! I don’t have a ton of hair (compared to my wife) so I didn’t have the highest expectations, but the Karmin G3 Salon Pro Hair Dryer actually cut drying time down to 5 minutes. (The older/cheaper model took quite a bit longer, and I had to turn it off mid-way through to avoid over-heating).

All in all, I am stoked about this new hair dryer and now understand the value of spending a bit more for quality hair tools. I am confident this will last a lot longer than my bargain model.
